Mental health is one of the most important aspects of our lives. If it becomes turbulent, our entire life can become turbulent. Although we talk about almost everything, today, terms like depression and anxiety, which are very common, are often not discussed as much as they should be.
Many people among us suffer from depression. They may not want to talk to anyone about it for various reasons: perhaps out of embarrassment, fear of how others might perceive them, fear that no one will understand their pain, or fear of being judged harshly. There are many reasons.
To me, depression is a synonym for fear and pain. Those who experience depression understand that it is a time of great suffering. Even many young boys and girls are victims of depression nowadays. It’s not just a trivial matter; it’s a serious issue because depression is driving many people to take medication. Many are turning to alcohol, cigarettes, and engaging in various negative activities, some even resorting to suicide.
Now, when a part of our body hurts or if one of our fingers gets cut, do we simply ignore it, or do we seek treatment? We often think that anxiety and depression only happen to unsuccessful people, which is completely wrong. Many successful individuals also suffer from depression.
There can be many reasons for depression:
Rejection: Depression can occur when someone faces rejection.
It’s not necessary that you prepare yourself in such a way that if someone rejects you, they will regret it someday.
Trauma and stress: Perhaps there are painful events or abuse from your childhood that you haven’t dealt with properly, leading you into depression.
But think about whether you can change what happened in your past. If not, then why keep hurting yourself by repeatedly thinking about it? You can’t change your past, but you can make your present beautiful. And when you make an effort to beautify your present, your future will also become brighter.
I suggest a method: If someone is suffering from such problems, try this. Write down the causes of your pain on a piece of paper, write down everything that happened in the past, then either burn the paper or make a plane out of it. Then, go to the roof and fly the plane. Take a deep breath and say, “From today, from this moment onwards, I am free from the painful past. I will reshape my life.” Fulfill your dreams.
Breakups and divorce: In the present time, breakups or divorce are among the other major causes of depression. Many people engage in terrifying actions like alcohol consumption, smoking, and even suicide due to this.
If you feel that your life is worthless to you, then others will also perceive it as worthless. Value yourself, love yourself, and others will love you. If you love yourself, the absence of love from others won’t matter.
Negative thinking: It always comes and creates a view of hopelessness, increasing despair.
If there is any negative influence in your life like drugs, alcohol, unhealthy diet, negative content on social media, try to stay away from them and eliminate them.
Practicing deep breathing every day will help keep negative thinking at bay and promote positive thinking.
There are many more reasons for depression:
Students suffer due to the pressure of studies, the fear of failing exams, and the pressure of performing well, leading to depression.
Many people suffer from depression due to loneliness.
* Job loss, inability to find a job can also lead to depression.
These are all psychological reasons. So, if you are taking medication for depression, it’s working at the physical level. At the psychological level, you have to work on yourself. Medicine may relax you for some time, help you sleep, but it’s not a permanent solution.
To find a permanent solution, you have to work on yourself. If someone else cannot work there without you, you have to learn to control your emotions. As much as you say it to others, you won’t benefit from it until you want to fix yourself. You may not be able to fix your past, but you can make your present beautiful. And when you make an effort to make your present beautiful, your future will also become brighter.
I’m not saying that you shouldn’t take medicine or seek professional help. But you should also work on yourself. Commit yourself that yes, I have to do this, I will be able to. Until you commit to yourself, you won’t see that positive energy entering your life.
When it comes to mental health, physical health follows because mental health and physical health are connected.
Exercise: Science says that daily exercise releases feel-good hormones, reducing anxiety and depression. It lowers the level of cortisol, known as the stress hormone.
Meditation: Daily meditation has many benefits. It makes parts of your brain powerful, enabling you to understand people easily, increasing focus, and enhancing mental stamina. Meditation is very beneficial for your mental health.
Diet:
Nutritional deficiencies, especially in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals, can affect our mood and energy levels. If you consume processed foods, you may start feeling bad automatically. So it’s essential to eat healthy food.
Hydration:
Feeling thirsty indicates dehydration in our body, which makes us feel bad. Drinking plenty of water is necessary.
If all of these are maintained in the right amount in our body, then we won’t need medicine.
From my experience, I can say that a healthy diet, daily exercise, and meditation have helped me a lot. Most importantly, I have prayed a lot to the Creator.
If you feel like you have mental health issues, share it with your family or someone who understands you. It could be your mentor or friend. And if you still don’t feel mentally healthy, then definitely seek help from a professional doctor.
You can’t control what happens to you, but you can control how you perceive it, how you react, how you adorn it, and how you handle the situation.
“Remember, your problems may never be bigger than you. Face them with courage; you are the only one who can. Don’t give up because victory lies before fear.”
